MADAGASCAR

map of Madagascar
A wonderful island located South-East of the African mainland, between the Mozambique Channel and the Indian Ocean. MADAGASCAR is a magic island, rich in mineral resources, a unique and fascinating destination for tourism and sightseeing. In an attempt to characterize the diversity of its cultural and natural richness, it has been given many names : Natures Sanctuary, Island of Adventures, the Big Island or the Island of Thousand Faces.

  • The Big Island Almost a mini-continent with its 592,000 km²  surface and 5000 km coastline, Madagascar is the world's third biggest island. Its close to 16 million inhabitants are of different origins and have distinct cultures. They are spread over 6 provinces : Antananarivo (the capital city), Tamatave (in the east), Fianarantsoa (in the south-east), Tuléar (in the south), Majunga (in the west) and Diégo (in the north) .
  • Nature' s Sanctuary Thousands of unique species of flora and fauna : lemurs, tenrecs, orchids, cactus, baobabs, Népenthès (pitcher plants), exotic birds, butterflies, chameleons… many still un-named. A few years ago, a team of paleontologists even found the oldest dinosaur fossils on earth, estimated to be 230 million years old, prosauropodes.
  • Island of a Thousand Faces Breathtaking sites such as the Tsingy and the Isalo Nationalpark, terraced ricepaddies, lush tropical rainforests, the Spiny Desert, wonderful lakes and waterfalls, beautiful white sand beaches and dream-like islands...
Not to be overlooked is the cultural richness of its population - the Malagasy people - composed of 18 ethnic groups identifying themselves by their  traditions, folklore, art, dialect, clothing, hairstyles, habitation, culinary specialities,...
what a beautiful smile
