- The Big Island Almost a mini-continent with its 592,000 km² surface and 5000 km
coastline, Madagascar is the world's third biggest island. Its close to 16 million inhabitants are of different origins and have distinct cultures. They are spread over 6
provinces : Antananarivo (the capital city), Tamatave (in the east), Fianarantsoa (in the
south-east), Tuléar (in the south), Majunga (in the west) and Diégo (in the north) .
- Nature' s Sanctuary
Thousands of unique species of flora and fauna : lemurs, tenrecs,
orchids, cactus, baobabs, Népenthès (pitcher plants), exotic birds, butterflies,
chameleons
many still un-named. A few years ago, a team of paleontologists even found the
oldest dinosaur fossils on earth, estimated to be 230 million years old, prosauropodes.
